Faithful Stewards at 75: Parish Pastoral Council of St. Stephen the Protomartyr Witnesses the Jubilee Launch

June 29, 2025, St. Stephen the Protomartyr Parish PPC, led by our Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Paulo B. Barandon and PPC Chair Bro. Ed Talavera, attended the launch of the Diamond Jubilee celebration of the Diocese of Legazpi, Legazpi City, Albay, Philippines, marked by the unveiling of the theme song “75 Taon nin Pagbaklay”. This milestone commemorates 75 years of faith, service, and journey in the diocese.

The theme song “75 Taon nin Pagbaklay” is a beautiful expression of faith and celebration, acknowledging God’s blessings and guidance throughout the diocese’s journey. The lyrics emphasize the importance of following Jesus’ teachings, the role of the Church in supporting its people, and the unity of the community in their faith. The song’s refrain highlights the diocese’s gratitude for God’s love and care. The theme song was beautifully rendered by Fr. Dave, Fr. Pau, Fr. Pats, Fr. Gem, and Fr. Eaw. The 75th Anniversary Theme Song “75 Taon nin Pagbaklay” was written by Robert Labayen, with music and choral arrangement by Victor Buenconsejo.

The launch coincided with the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, celebrated on June 29, 2025, at 10:00 AM, at Saint Gregory the Great Cathedral, Legazpi City. Bishop Joel Baylon’s homily during the launch was a powerful call to action, emphasizing three key themes: being blessed, nourished, and sent forth. Notably, he challenged the faithful to intensify their efforts in three areas:

1. Building a community of disciples, where families are life-giving, youth are vibrant, and the poor are empowered. 2. Living compassionate justice, marked by integrity, service, and courageous witness. 3. Embracing synodality, walking with the vulnerable, and reaching out to the peripheries.

The bishop’s words serve as a reminder of our role as disciples of Christ and the importance of living out our faith in our daily lives. As the Diocese of Legazpi embarks on this new chapter, Bishop Baylon’s challenge inspires us to deepen our commitment to building a Church that truly listens, serves, and walks with its people.

The Diamond Jubilee Logo, designed by Mr. Reymond Lovendino, is rich in symbolism. Each element tells a story:

The Number 75: represents the diocese’s sacred journey and pilgrimage of faith.

– Twelve Stars and the Letter M: pay tribute to the Blessed Virgin Mary, our Diocesan Patroness, symbolizing her protection and intercession.

– The Dove: symbolizes the Holy Spirit, reminding us of Pentecost and the Church’s mission. – The Plant with Six Leaves: represents the six Vicariates, symbolizing growth, communion, and shared mission.

– Barefoot Footprints: evoke humility and service, reminding us to walk simply and accompany the vulnerable.

– Hands Reaching Out: symbolize stewardship, outreach, and inclusivity.

– The Blazing Heart: represents zeal, enthusiasm, and passion for the mission, echoing the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

– 1951-2026: mark the diocese’s journey, highlighting God’s enduring faithfulness.

The Diocese has planned a series of events to commemorate this milestone, divided into three phases:

– Preparatory Phase (June 2025 – June 2026) – June 29, 2025: Concelebrated Mass for the Launching of the 2026 Diocesan Diamond Jubilee

Heartfelt congratulations to the Diocese of Legazpi on this momentous occasion! May this milestone be a source of joy, gratitude, and renewed commitment to serving the Lord and His people.

As Bishop Baylon aptly put it, quoting Luke 24:32, “Were not our hearts burning within us?” May our hearts indeed burn with love and passion for the Lord’s mission, guiding us as we journey together in faith and service. CHONA A. PINTOR Parokya Patroller
