April 13, 2025 – St. Stephen the Protomartyr Parish, Ligao City, Albay
The faithful of St. Stephen the Protomartyr Parish gathered in solemn devotion on Palm Sunday, April 13, 2025, to mark the beginning of the Holy Week. The celebration was led by the parish priest, Rev. Fr. Paulo B. Barandon, who presided over the traditional blessing of palms and the Eucharistic celebration.
The celebration began with the blessing of palm branches, a ritual that recalls Jesus Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem, where crowds greeted Him with palm branches and shouts of “Hosanna.” Parishioners carried intricately woven palm fronds, symbolizing both victory and peace, as they joined in a joyful procession from the Ligao City Pavilion going to the Church Patio.
During the homily, Fr. Barandon reflected on the significance of Palm Sunday, urging the congregation to enter Holy Week with a spirit of humility, repentance, and renewed faith. “This is a time for us to walk with Christ through His Passion, Death, and ultimately, His Resurrection,” he said. “Let us carry our palms not just in our hands, but in our hearts, with sincerity and hope.”
The liturgical celebration was marked with heartfelt prayers, hymns, and active participation from various parish ministries, organizations, movement, and lay people. The atmosphere was reverent and reflective, setting the tone for the coming days of Holy Week observance.
As the parish continues its Lenten journey, Fr. Barandon encouraged everyone to take part in the upcoming Holy Week liturgies and to open their hearts more fully to the grace and mystery of the Paschal Triduum.
