BITS OF INFORMATION

The Order of the Holy Cross is also known as O.R.C. in Latin O stands for Ordo, R for Regularium and C for Canonicorum Sanctae Crucis. Translated in English Order of Canons Regular of the Holy Cross.   O.R.C. is a priestly community of pontifical right, gathered around Jesus Christ, the Crucified and Eucharistic Lord. Following the example of the Holy Angels and the Apostles, we desire to love, honor and serve God.

Short History and Charism of the O.R.C. (Ordo Regularium Canonicorum Sanctae Crucis).   The Order of Canons Regular of the Holy Cross (O.R.C.) traces its spiritual heritage to the early canonical communities of the Church and draws inspiration from the life and mission of the Apostles and Holy Angels. While the original Canons Regular of the Holy Cross were founded in the 12th century, the modern branch of the O.R.C. was re-established in the 20th century and is a priestly community of pontifical right. It has received formal recognition from the Holy See and continues to grow in service to the church.

Charism.   The O.R.C. centers its life on Jesus Christ, the Crucified and Eucharistic Lord. Living in the community, the canons follow a rule that emphasizes liturgical prayer, the Holy Eucharist, the devotion to the Holy Cross. Inspired by the Holy Angels and the Apostles, the members seek to love, honor and serve God through the priestly ministry, the celebration of the Sacred Liturgy and apostolic works always rooted in the spirit of reverence, obedience and deep communion with the church.

THE PRIESTLY ORDINATION.   The foregoing information provides us, Ligaoeños and other faithful, the priestly order which the newly ordained priests embraced namely: Fr. FRANCIS XAVIER NGUYEN from Than Son Parish, Xuan Loc Diocese, Dong Nai Province Vietnam, Fr. JOHN BERCHMAN PERILLO EMBUDO of St. Stephen the Protomartyr Parish, a native of Mahaba, LigaoCity, Albay and Fr. JOHN BOSCO COMORA JAUCIAN also of St. Stephen Protomartyr Parish and a native of Dunao, Ligao City, as they were solemnly conferred to the Sacred Order of Priesthood by Most Reverend Bishop JOEL Z. BAYLON D.D. of the Diocese of Legaspi. The three Ordinands completed their Degree in Theology from the Institutum Sapientiae, Holy Cross Monastery in Miranápolis, Anápolis, Goiás, Brazil.   The solemn Eucharistic Celebration and Ordination to the Sacred Order of Priesthood historically took place at the St. Stephen the Protomartyr Parish in Ligao City. Their ordination signified the continuation of their priestly formation and punctuated their commitment to serve the Lord and the community, marking a new journey as priests dedicated to announcing the Good News of Salvation and serving the people.   Remarkably, the attendees to the ceremony included concelebrating priests of the Diocese of Legazpi, Bishop LEOPOLDO JAUCIAN of the Diocese of Bangued, also with roots in Ligao, Reverend Sisters of their respective congregations, Parish Pastoral Councils, religious organizations, parents, relatives, benefactors, former classmates and close friends of the new priests who proudly gathered together to witness the momentous and historic occasion and offered support and prayers.   In his homily, Bishop JOEL Z. BAYLON reflected on the significance of Mary’s visitation to Elizabeth as recounted in the Gospel of Luke 1:39-56. He noted that after Mary received the wonderful news from the Angel Gabriel, she immediately shared the good news with Elizabeth her cousin who was then carrying in her womb the prophet John, and connecting the ordination as Good News which deserves to be celebrated.   Representing the two other newly ordained priests, Rev. Fr. JOHN BERCHMAN EMBUDO gratefully expressed their sincere appreciation and thanks to Bishop Baylon, Bishop Jaucian, the 17 concelebrating priests, the Reverend Sisters, the seminarians, the O.R.C. community, the St. Stephen Protomartyr Parish Family, with special thanks to Rev. Fr. PAULO B. BARANDON, Parish Priest, and the three Parochial Vicars, and the various ministries of the parish for the warm hospitality and generous support during their stay, their families, friends and benefactors, for the support and prayers all throughout their journey, their love, guidance and prayers.
